The Real Reason Why Capitalism is the Worst Economic System

It is not hard to find an article on Medium exposing the evils of capitalism. A quick look at the “Economics” tag leads to a handful of stories to that effect. Search the word “capitalism” itself and almost every story will treat it in a negative light. I think it is fair to say that Medium writers aren’t satisfied with the economy as it works right now. (Umair Haque at Eudaimonia & Co. has a large collection of such pieces.)

Yet for all the literature on the subject, it seems like the Medium community has overlooked a key fact in this discussion. I’d like to take a minute of your time discussing this missing link, explaining why it causes capitalism to break down, and how we as a society might be able to fix it.

A bit of a disclaimer before you waste too much of your time: my theory is very heterodox by Medium’s standards. If you have already read your fill of pieces bashing capitalism and have made up your mind, you might as well jump the ship right now. However, if you have an inquisitive mind, and you are willing to suspend your own opinions in order to consider an alternative set of ideas, I invite you to proceed.
